They said "Linux is cancer" for a lot longer than they've been trying to play nice (at least "on the face of it") with Open Source/Linux.

I remember opening a newspaper here and seeing a massive double page ad about "getting the facts" about how using Linux was supposed to be more expensive. I can't remember seeing such a big newspaper ad for anything else...

But don't worry guys! Microsoft now wants to be friends!
Even though the CEO's remuneration is mostly Microsoft stock, and that mostly depends on the success of Azure and Windows...
Yeah, not buying it :)
