Seems best to find where your people come from and harmonize to ones ancestral culture and be proud of it instead though.  I understand many are born from a long line of people out of wedlock and record keeping and will have trouble tracing their ancestry with written records. For those people, dna tests can help. But do whatever. If you are a non-white dressing up like the little mermaid, it would be hypocritical to get upset if a white woman wants to play the role of an African Queen. Although my personal preference would always be the little mermaid. Whites are better able than blacks to swim, on average due to biological differences. There is a good reason to preserve the memory of our tales and respect the connection to the people these stories come from.
