A well, breast-fed term infant presented with jaundice at 36 hours of age. The total serum bilirubin was 20 mg/dl, direct bilirubin 0.9 mg/dl direct. Blood film showed reticulocytes 6%. The baby's blood group was A rhesus negative and mother's blood group O rhesus negative.
