Effect of Specific Gravity (Sp.Gr) on Cement Properties

Specific Gravity (SG) of cement = ratio of the weight of a given volume of cement to the weight of an equal volume of water.

Typical Value:

For Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC): 3.10 – 3.15

For Low specific gravity (<3.10): may indicate cement has been exposed to moisture or contains more fly ash/additives.

For High specific gravity (>3.20): may indicate high iron content or improper burning.
