In 2015, Greg Maxwell sought to twist my words—"Enjoy capitalism"—into a warped narrative, suggesting that collectivism somehow equates to strength.
His argument could not have been more wrong.
Collectivism is the doctrine of surrender, the abdication of individual responsibility and creativity to the amorphous, faceless collective. It thrives only by draining the life force of individuals, by subsuming their achievements under the guise of shared success. But no collective has ever invented, created, or built. It is always the individual who thinks, who acts, who drives progress forward.
Maxwell's claim reveals the fundamental flaw of the collectivist mindset: the belief that strength comes from numbers, from consensus, from groupthink. But true strength lies in the individual. It is the lone mind, unyielding in its pursuit of truth, that changes the world. Every innovation, every leap forward, every monumental shift in history comes from the courage of a single individual who dares to think differently, to stand apart from the crowd.
Collectivism, far from being strong, is inherently weak. It relies on conformity, on the suppression of dissent, and on the parasitic consumption of the value created by individuals. The moment individuals withdraw their effort and intellect, the collective crumbles. This is why Bitcoin, as I designed it, places power back in the hands of individuals. It removes the need for trust in centralised systems, enabling direct, peer-to-peer interactions. It is a system built on the strength of individual action, not the illusion of collective might.
Maxwell and those like him misunderstand this at their core. They fear the individual because they know that the individual exposes the lie of collectivism.
My message remains clear: Enjoy capitalism. Embrace the strength of the individual, for it is the individual who builds, innovates, and scales systems to heights the collective cannot even comprehend. Their collectivist rhetoric is a desperate attempt to shroud their own impotence, but the truth cannot be hidden—strength will always lie with the individual.
