🏗️ Top & Seat Angle vs. Web Cleat Connection
1. Top & Seat Angle Connection
Uses angles at the top and bottom flanges of the beam.
Can transfer shear and resist bending moments, depending on design.
More complex and costly to fabricate.
Used where greater rotational restraint is required.
2. Web Cleat Connection
Uses vertical cleat angles or plates connected to the beam and column webs.
Primarily transfers shear forces.
Simple, economical, and quick to install.
Commonly used for secondary beams.
Which is Stronger? A properly designed top & seat angle connection can provide greater moment resistance, while a web cleat is efficient for shear transfer.
Note: Connection strength depends on design, materials, bolts, welds, and applied loads.
