👉Column Formwork – Key Construction Details

🌟Column formwork provides the temporary mould required to cast reinforced-concrete columns to the specified dimensions, alignment, and shape.

Key components:

Formwork boards: Typically timber panels used to contain fresh concrete.

Walers: Horizontal members that stiffen and hold the formwork panels together.

Props/struts: Diagonal supports that maintain stability and plumb alignment.

Base plates/soles: Provide a firm bearing surface for props.

Wedges/cleats: Used for adjustment, tightening, and securing the support system.

Column reinforcement: Steel bars and ties positioned inside the formwork according to the structural design.

Important site checks:

Verify column dimensions and reinforcement before closing the formwork.

Check verticality, line, level, and rigidity.

Maintain the specified reinforcement cover using suitable spacers.

Ensure joints are tight enough to prevent excessive grout leakage.

Apply an appropriate form-release agent without contaminating reinforcement.

Secure all braces and supports before concrete placement.

Inspect the formwork again immediately before pouring.

Do not remove formwork based only on a fixed time period; stripping should follow the project specifications and the concrete’s achieved strength.

Note: The dimensions shown in an infographic are illustrative. Actual board sizes, waler spacing, column dimensions, reinforcement, cover, and stripping requirements must be determined from the structural drawings, design calculations, and applicable construction standards.
