👉Pre-Tensioning Vs Post-Tensioning in Structures

🔹Pre-Tensioning

Steel tendons are stretched before concrete is cast. Once the concrete gains strength, the tendons are released, transferring compressive forces to the concrete.

Commonly used in precast elements such as sleepers, beams, and hollow-core slabs.

🔹Post-Tensioning

Steel tendons are placed inside ducts and stressed after the concrete has hardened.

The tendons are then anchored, introducing compression into the concrete.

Widely used in bridges, high-rise buildings, parking structures, and long-span slabs.

✅ Key Difference:

🪧Pre-tensioning:-Stressing before concrete casting.

🪧Post-tensioning:-Stressing after concrete hardening.

🎯Benefits of Prestressing:
R
educed cracking, longer spans, improved durability, and more efficient use of materials.
