A slab may look ready for casting, but a few missed details can create structural, durability, quality, and cost problems later.
Before concrete placement, inspect the following:
๐ 1. STRUCTURAL CHECKS
โ๏ธ Slab thickness matches the approved drawing
โ๏ธ Main reinforcement diameter and spacing
โ๏ธ Distribution reinforcement
โ๏ธ Top reinforcement over supports
โ๏ธ Beam reinforcement and anchorage
โ๏ธ Additional reinforcement around openings
โ๏ธ Reinforcement laps and development lengths
๐ 2. COVER & REINFORCEMENT
โ๏ธ Correct concrete cover
โ๏ธ Proper chairs/spacers provided
โ๏ธ Bars are securely tied
โ๏ธ Reinforcement is not displaced or excessively sagging
โ๏ธ No excessive rust, mud, oil, or contamination
โก 3. MEP COORDINATION
โ๏ธ Electrical conduits installed correctly
โ๏ธ Plumbing sleeves/openings confirmed
โ๏ธ Floor drains and service penetrations positioned
โ๏ธ No unauthorized cutting or displacement of structural reinforcement
๐๏ธ 4. FORMWORK & TEMPORARY SUPPORT
โ๏ธ Formwork level and dimensions verified
โ๏ธ Beam and slab soffit levels checked
โ๏ธ Props and supports adequately installed
โ๏ธ Formwork joints properly closed
โ๏ธ Formwork is clean and free from debris
โ๏ธ Adequate access for concrete placement and vibration
๐งช 5. BEFORE CONCRETE ARRIVES
โ๏ธ Approved concrete mix/design confirmed
โ๏ธ Concrete grade verified
โ๏ธ Concrete delivery arrangement confirmed
โ๏ธ Vibrator and other equipment available
โ๏ธ Adequate manpower available
โ๏ธ Concrete curing materials prepared
โ๏ธ Inspection and approval completed

Do not start slab casting simply because the formwork is complete.
The slab should be checked as an integrated structural + architectural + MEP system before concrete placement.
