This is when you know things have gone way too far. George Orwell knew it was coming.
When I saw this headline originally, I just shook my head. This rewriting is literally proving Orwell's point.
It's public domain... anyone can write what they will with it all

I find it funny, but also interesting to see the story from the female lead's point of view. One thing I know is that it will not be as well written as the original.
It's retelling, it's not destroying all the copies of the original and replacing it with the "new version". That's what's being done in theaters all over the world - modern directors experimenting with classic plays to add something new to the viewing experience or to explore subject matter from a different perspective. If anything the authors should be commended for acknowledging that they are using Orwell's idea instead of trying to pass it off as their unique vision. Also newsposts like this are only going to serve as a free advertising campaign for the upcoming book.
They've also spared themselves the trouble of fighting Orwell's estate in a plagiarism court case that would've inevitably followed had they not done what they did.
