👉Analysis of Overhang Beam

💫An overhang beam is a beam that extends beyond one or both supports. In this example:

Span AB = 4 m, Overhang = 2 m

UDL = 5 kN/m acts over the entire 6 m length.

A 10 kN point load acts at the free end.

Using equilibrium equations (ΣFy = 0 and ΣM = 0), the support reactions are:

RA = 2.5 kN

RB = 37.5 kN

The Shear Force Diagram (SFD) shows how the shear force changes along the beam due to the loads and reactions.

The Bending Moment Diagram (BMD) shows positive bending between the supports and negative bending (hogging) at the overhang support, with a maximum negative moment of about −20 kNm.

This analysis helps engineers design beams that are safe, stable, and capable of carrying applied loads efficiently.
