🛳️The U.S. has narrowed its air defense coverage for tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz to two specific time slots daily, after Iran stepped up attacks on ships sailing at night, with vessels now encouraged to begin their route along the Omani coast at set times such as 9 a.m. to receive military protection.

Attacks have intensified on both sides in recent days, with Iran saying it targeted two U.S. vessels and eight oil tankers this week in response to American strikes on five Iranian tankers, which themselves followed the IRGC ballistic missile attack on a U.S. warship, likely reflecting the high cost of sustaining round the clock military escorts, which can run $25,000 to $75,000 per flight hour.

Iran has also said it plans to establish a "restricted zone" in the strait, warning that any ship entering it would face unspecified sanctions, as more than 70 commercial vessels have been attacked since the conflict began on February 28.
