@HowardCCox 42% of trucking companies is fuel of which 70% is tax!
I had several logistics firms that were my clients, my customers, and there was a common denominator in all of them that when you come to one particular trucking firm, that's got 50 trucks, and most of them were articulated 40 tonne, big jobs.
I remember sitting down with the MD of this particular company and we were having a cup of tea and it caught my eye on a spreadsheet on his desk, which was basically his P &L, his profit and loss. There was a little area which is costs. Then I saw a line, fuel, and obviously that's mainly diesel at the time. I said, is that really true, your figure? He said, yeah. It was 42 % of his costs were fuel. Of that 42%, 70 % went to the government in tax. So that just said, what?
