👉EFFECT OF TEMPRETURE IN CONCRETE CASTING:

💫Temperature has a big influence on concrete casting because it directly affects hydration rate, setting time, workability, and long-term strength.

⭐️A breakdown for both hot and cold conditions are listed below.

🏷1. In Hot Weather (High Temperature)

▶️Effects:Rapid water evaporation → reduces workability and slump.

▶️Faster hydration → shortens setting time, making placing & finishing harder.

▶️Higher risk of plastic shrinkage cracks due to quick surface drying.

▶️Increased risk of cold joints if delays happen during pouring.

▶️Possible reduction in long-term strength if water evaporates before proper hydration.

⚡️Precautions:

⏺Use cool mixing water or chilled aggregates.

⏺Cast during cooler times of the day (early morning/evening).

⏺Cover concrete immediately after finishing to reduce evaporation.

⏺Use retarding admixtures to slow setting.

⏺Keep formwork and reinforcement cool before casting.

🏷2. In Cold Weather (Low Temperature)

▶️Effects:Slower hydration → delays setting and strength gain.

▶️Risk of freezing water inside fresh concrete → disrupts hydration and weakens structure.

▶️Extended curing time required before formwork removal.

▶️Potential scaling or surface damage if concrete freezes before gaining ~3.5 MPa strength.

⚡️Precautions:

⏺Use warm mixing water or heated aggregates.

⏺Use accelerating admixtures to speed up setting.

⏺Cover concrete with thermal blankets or use heated enclosures.

⏺Avoid casting if ambient temperature is below 5 °C without protection.

📜General Rule: Concrete performs best when the fresh concrete temperature is kept between 10 °C and 30 °C during casting and early curing.
