Making Windows based on Linux wouldn't essentialy make Windows useless?

Eh... Microsoft Edge is based on chromium, which runs on windows, linux and mac. So "porting" it to Linux mostky mean setting up the infrastructure to compile and test the binaries...

No, Windows will continue to be around for a very long time and the backlog of old applications will need somewhere up to date to run.
