Despite the cycnism of the chaterotti, ordinary Americans by and large, in my opinion, still have faith in the markets being at least stable and free. After government, the press, elections losing the faith of the masses, at least the economy was still working more or less fairly in the eyes of average Americans. Now that is out the window.

Incorrect. Even the biggest sheeple fully realized economic digiral stock market rigging in the 1973 oil crisis collapse. Derivative ponzi schemes were blown wide open to every joe schmoe in the 2000-01 tech bubble pop,and then agsin in 2008 with every other bubble. Derivatives and intress rates out of nowhere. Even hollywood has made many huge films exposing how corrupt and fully rigged wall street systems and stock markets are,for decades now. Watch the 2015 film "Big Short", won oscars. Or 2011 fim "Margin Call", or 1976 "Network" etc. Even joe schmoe knew it about economy,long before they stoppe trusting media or government even. You got it fully backwards.
