All this crying and in the end the problem is that the Chromium package is in Snap and not in the main Ubuntu repositories, In the last Canonical is the builder of Chromium and it can choose when it want distribution it
If Linuxmint developers want to provide Chromium from Apt Repos, they can build it and offer it in Linuxmint official repos.
Canonical is NOT the one that makes Chromium. Chromium is the open source part of chrome and still has Google as major contributor. Canonical make it available for Ubuntu ONLY as Snap , you can't have it in any other form if you so wish, and it's very wrong, 'cause choice is one of the things that makes opensource software so great. Adding the fact that the SNAP package system is PROPRIETARY and not open source is the real reason why the LM team has (rightfully) opted to let that BS out of the system. Chromium has been taken only as an example out of many other programs that are getting in sole control of Canonical , in opposition to the spirit of open source . Surely, the LM team will let you have all these programs available via flatpack, which is open source and community driven with even more benefits. WELL DONE LM TEAM!!
