What is it about all this "deals" in the US justice system? There should be the law only, and if you can't proof someone's guilt, he has to be found not guilty.
Same for sheriffs being elected. They will do whatever to be reelected, even going so far as to falsify evidence, just to make people feel safe, while the killer is still on the loose.
The system needs an overhaul, that's for sure. No deals, no matter what!
