Yes it was his fault that his views were not the same as the governments and the vast majority of Chinese people. Or are you implying this professor was some kind of drone kidnapped one day and Mk Ultra’d into Western ideals therefore he didn’t willingly pick western liberalism and so this professor is like a walking zombie or drug addict or certified insane person and cannot be held culpable for his own actions or thoughts.

Everyone knows about Xinjiang, the Western media and its population won’t stop their incessant moaning on it. The Chinese population totals Billions of people with the majority towing the line of the Chinese government, Xinjiang Uyghur Muslims are a minority, Liberals of the Western view are a minuscule blip on the radar in China.
If you adopt such values and hold to them in China, you consent to all the punitive consequences the Chinese government has in store for you, as the Chinese government does not hide those punishments from the public and they are common knowledge.
If you don’t have the will to die for those values as a Chinese or other ethnic group in China, then either flee to a Western country and be among your own cultural ethos (like a coward) or submit to the dominant culture. Because Westerners have a funny and obnoxious “divinely mandated” type of casus belli were “If we have one single Westernised person in [insert nation] with billions of people that are opposed to our Western values than that nation is inherently Western...” or the lemming feigning ignorance approach of “Oh I’m in a 99.9% Muslim dominated country with Sharia Law, I think I’m gonna be a Liberal... If you are in a group that is visibly an outcast minority viewpoint, especially an ideology, you are in it with the express intent of usurping and subverting the current dominant viewpoint and most importantly you are in it out of your own sheer will. Meaning social pressures, social ostracism, the threat of losing your livelihood or the threat of death does not scare such people, if these things worked on them, they would not hold these values in the first place. Especially in a place that is extremely hostile to them.
I generally agree but these Uyghur are majority in Xinjiang. And they always were the majority there. (It's changing as CPP gives benefits for mainland chinese to move there) This region was conquered in 18th by some Chinese dynasty coz it was rich in some minerals. Would you support people of your country fighting back after being conquered? Poles regained their independence after more than a hundred years.
And? Homes are broken into everyday, what matters is how you react to it. You can take it lying down or you can die for it. And it looks like Uyghurs are taking it lying down, just like Western Whites. If the “house” is so valuable to you, you will fight for it until extinction or at least make the cost of acquiring the house so large the invader does not wish to have it (Afghanistan).
From what I know of, I don’t see such extreme Taliban like efforts among the Uyghur's, so I assume in labour and act that they are okay with the loss of their home. Unlike say the Kurds, or Afghanis or Houthis or the minority Russians (well in their case they were the invader but now they’ve just situated themselves like a fortress in the target states home) in multiple ex-SSR states.
