Just a few of the talks are titled “Gondor in Transition: A Brief Introduction to Transgender Realities in The Lord of the Rings” and “Pardoning Saruman?: The Queer in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings”.

This is exactly why the Amazon show is probably a lost cause. Thank God the original trilogy came out 20 years ago.

Yeah, the Tolkien society has nothing to do with Tolkien or his works. I understood that the day they supported the introduction of Tauriel, an abomination.

I by chance happened to listen to a German Tolkien society live talk some days ago.
There was mentioned: German society about 1000 members.
THE Tolkien society (English, which you mentioned above) supposedly having 3000 members.
Miniscule club! Not relevant for the fandom.
(And to my knowledge definitely a different entity to the body which is advising the coming LOTR amazon series).
