I by chance happened to listen to a German Tolkien society live talk some days ago.
There was mentioned: German society about 1000 members.
THE Tolkien society (English, which you mentioned above) supposedly having 3000 members.
Miniscule club! Not relevant for the fandom.
(And to my knowledge definitely a different entity to the body which is advising the coming LOTR amazon series).

True, they did talk to the Tolkien Estate but two months after the deal was signed, Christopher Tolkien stepped down from his position. He probably knew what he just did or he was pressured to do it. A Tolkien scholar and biographer that participated in the Amazon series also left. These are not good signs.

Christopher Tolkien was right. I agree with everything he said. I like LOTR movies. They were great. But C. Tolkien said they lacked the beauty and seriousness of the books. The Hobbit trilogy was next. Even Peter Jackson was desperate and very unsatisfied with them. They were totally below LOTR movies. What's coming now will be even worse. Please God, do not let them film The Sillmarillion.

I think any movie adaptation of a book will always fall short. I believe LOTR was the closest we'll ever come to a great adaptation of a great book.
