Ah, well, Russian is a very broad term and is wider than simply a genetic description, it's just like American. Of course your general Russian would look more like me and have a similar name, I'm considered a Russian as I live in Russia and have Russian citizenship, although I have Ukrainian descent many may argue it's all the same and you will never say whether you're looking at a Russian guy or at a Ukrainian guy and the difference is purely territorial.
Yes, it's true that a name can serve as a solid basis for guessing one's ethnicity, but since English doesn't offer a distinction between a Russian as a representative of an ethnic group and a Russian as a citizen of the country, there's nothing wrong with my original comment, because I simply rejected her on behalf of all Russian citizens regardless of their ethnicity. But yeah, ethnically speaking I'm a mix and unfortunately I haven't had my DNA tested to pinpoint which ethnic group I'm closer to - Tatars or Russians.
Now to the point of Manizha calling herself a "Russian woman". She's subject to the laws of Russian Federation and hypothetically speaking if she were to make a statement about women suffering domestic abuse on the territory of Russian Federation it would make sense for her to identify as a "Russian woman" and not as a "Tajik woman with Russian citizenship" given that the problem is widespread and not limited to a specific ethnic group.
Sounds interesting. https://www.etymonline.com/word/gorgeous According to this source the word might have something to do with the neck, but maybe more about showing it off rather than simply showing too much of it, unless I'm misunderstanding "to show a lot of neck".
Anyway, thanks for awakening my dormant obsession with etymology. XD
yeah, all that plus you are ashamed of being Tatar, it's okay, just confess it to yersel. and this bloody manishka still has an inferiority complex and hard feelings about her non-russian descent, somewhere deep inside she has it and it shows.
If you're gonna start putting out citizenships to everybody like hot cakes, don't be surprised people stop caring about it. That's how inflation works.
I guess using compound nouns can clarify things quite a bit, but the single lexical unit "Russian" is still too ambiguous.
You actually bring an interesting point about self-identification. I'm an apostate Muslim baptised into Russian orthodoxy that became disillusioned with religion, went through an atheist phase and found my way back to spirituality through Buddhism. I guess I'm still a member of a minority group, but is it a Muslim one?
There are people who try to impose their religion/ideology on others and chop off the heads of people who disagree. They are the enemy.
But there are also people who just happen to be if Muslim ancestry, arheists, agnostics, religious people who just don't attach much political meaning to their faiths, there are religious dissidents, sometimes fundamentalist in their iwn right but not necessarily violent etc. etc. They don't must be enemies, unless we approach each orher from a general xenophobic attitute.
General xenobhobia is an extreme that must be avoided.
I can't stop laughing, it was too funny 😂😂 and hope she is doing well after getting this much rejections... And one thing I will like to point out that we Indian are also a part of Asia but yaa someone can say that as a ethnic group we are a lot different ..

Anyway, I find it much more interesting that a member of a Muslim minority in Russia enters a discussion here. 👍
